COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman goalkeeper Mike Gustavson earned freshman All-America honors from Top Drawer Soccer, the publication recently announced. Gustavson was one of five rookie goalkeepers to make the list.

A native of Aiken, S.C., Gustavson played every minute (1970:54) in goal this season for the Gamecocks. He finished the season with a 1.19 goals-against average and four shutouts, which ranks in the top five for a freshman at South Carolina. In addition to setting a USC freshman record for saves with 88, Gustavson was selected Conference USA’s Freshman of the Year and made second-team all-conference.

Carolina finished the year with a 12-7-2 record and captured the Conference USA Tournament title in its first season competing in the league. The Gamecocks also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in school history under head coach Mark Berson.
