FOOTBALL (7-4, 5-3)
Sidney Rice was named the Offensive Freshman of the Year in the SEC by The Sporting News. Senior offensive tackle Jabari Levey was selected for the East-West Shrine game. The team has been preparing for the December 30 Independence Bowl matchup with Missouri. The team will depart for Shreveport on Monday, December 26. .

MEN’S BASKETBALL (7-2)
The men’s basketball team posted a pair of easy nonconference wins last week, defeating Winthrop and Wofford to run its record to 7-2. Things get tougher this week as they travel to Temple for a Thursday night clash with the Owls, then host Pitt and Detroit Mercy to end the month.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (5-3)
The women’s basketball team won three times last week to improve their record to 5-3. After routing nationally-ranked Minnesota with a surprisingly easy 18-point win, the Gamecocks overmatched Ohio and South Carolina State. They are home Monday night versus Savannah State and Wednesday against Bethune-Cookman.

MEN’S SOCCER
University of South Carolina senior defender Greg Reece made College Soccer News’ (www.collegsoccernews.com) 2005 All-America team. A total of 33 players were selected, and Reece, a defender from Clemmons, N.C., is one 11 players on the third team.

SWIMMING AND DIVING
The South Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed against Wright State University on Friday in a non-scoring dual meet in Tampa, Fla. Highlighting the afternoon was both the men’s and women’s teams in the 100 medley relay and 100 freestyle relay.
