Camp Directors Director, Shelley Smith – Shelley is the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at the University of South Carolina. She brings a variety of professional playing experience and coaching background to South Carolina. A two time Regional All American at the University of Vermont, Shelley played semiprofessionally in England and in the United States. Smith guided the University of Rhode Island to the post season for the first time in school history and set records for wins in a season 2 of her 4 years there. In her first season at the University of South Carolina, Shelley led the team to be the third most improved team in the country. Her coaching honors include A-10 conference coach of the year in 1998, NEWISA Division I coach of the year in 2000 and Northeast Region coach of the year in 2000. Shelley holds her USSF “B” license and an Advanced National Diploma.
Asst. Director, Jamie Smith – Jamie is an Assistant Director of the Carolina Soccer Schools and is the Associate Head Coach at the University of South Carolina. A four year starting Goalkeeper at Providence College of the Big East Conference, Jamie was also a professional player in the USISL and ALeague. Description The Goalkeeper Academy offers a highly competitive training atmosphere for goalkeepers to refine their technical skills and be challenged in tactical game related situations. A unique advantage to this camp is that it is run in conjunction with the Jr. Elite and Elite Training field player camps. This gives the goalkeepers the opportunity to apply and practice their refinements in daily 6 v 6 and 11v11 competitions. Goalkeepers will be introduced to practice sessions used to train collegiate and elite GKs. They will focus on improving footwork, making technical adjustments, and most importantly advancing their decision making in pressure situations. A thorough GK specific evaluation will be giving to every GK at the end of camp. In addition campers will also receive a camp T-shirt, GK training shirt, and a camp ball.
Elite GK campers will be exposed to college coaches from Division I, II and III schools and will have the option to attend college recruiting panels and discussions.
