Baseball
The USC Baseball team is ranked 14th in the pre-season poll by Baseball America and 17th by Collegiate Baseball. They are one of seven SEC schools to be ranked in the top 25 by Baseball America.
Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team split a pair of home games last week, defeating South Carolina State before falling to Tennessee in the SEC opener. Tarence Kinsey had the hot hand with 24 and 18 points respectively. The Gamecocks travel to Ole Miss for a Wednesday night game, then host Georgia on Saturday.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team dropped its first two SEC contests of the season, falling to No. 1 Tennessee before losing at Kentucky. Lauren Simms led the way with 16 and 14 points respectively. They travel to LSU for a Thursday tilt before returning home to face Vanderbilt on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Equestrian
The Equestrian team will host the 2006 Saddles and Spurs Exhibition on Wednesday, January 25, prior to the USC-Florida men’s basketball game. The event will be held outside the Colonial Center beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Football
The annual spring game is set for Saturday, April 8.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept North Carolina State on Saturday. The men edged the 24th-ranked Wolfpack, 121-120, while the women posted a 135-103 win. Dan White led the men to victory with a pair of wins in the 500 and 1000 freestyle. Christy Williams had a pair of wins for the women, taking top honors in the 200 back and 200 IM. They compete again Saturday at Kentucky.
Track and Field
The indoor track & field season got underway Saturday with an exhibition in Orlando. The team travels to Virginia Tech this weekend.
Volleyball
Shonda Cole will travel to Colorado Springs this weekend for open tryouts for the 2006 USA Women’s National Team. Cole competed on one of the national teams this past summer, traveling to the Dominican Republic, Korea, China and Thailand.
