USC Head Coach Susan Walvius

Opening Statement:
“We battled today. I was pleased with the effort. I thought Lea Fabbri did a really nice job at the point guard position. Our tempo offensively was a good one, though we could have done a better job attacking. Outside of the first three minutes of the second half and a few uncontested and careless turnovers, I was real pleased with our team’s effort.”

“We had defensive breakdown in the first three minutes of the second half that broke us. Our team turned the ball over and we had unforced errors.”

Regarding Georgia Sophomore Forward Tasha Humphrey :
“Georgia is a very good team. I thought our team for the most part did a very decent job of defending (Tasha) Humphrey. She is really hard to guard and may be arguably the best player in the SEC. Because of her versatility, because of her strength, because she can rebound and because of her ability to step out and hit the three, it makes it very difficult to guard her.”

Regarding Early SEC Schedule:
“I can see potential in this team. I can see that they will reach their potential soon. We’ve played a tough schedule so far. This team has a mentality to win these games and we’re going to have a good year in the SEC this year.”

Regarding Georgia’s Quickness:
“We said to this team, `They’re going to get their steals.’ They did against (Tennessee guard Shanna) Zolman, and they’re lightning quick. We said that we would have to combat that with rebounds and we did that.”

Junior Forward Iva Sliskovic

Regarding Tasha Humphrey:
“Tasha Humphrey is a really good player. We talked about guarding her hard and we did that for the most part of the game.”

Regarding Early SEC Schedule:
“Through every game you learn something. We just have to learn to make less mistakes and turn them into something good. It was a tough stretch, but we never gave up. Georgia is a good team.”

Junior Guard Lea Fabbri

Regarding Georgia’s Quickness:
“They were the quickest team I’ve ever played against, especially in the defensive zone. They would jump into the passing lanes when you don’t expect them to be there.”

Regarding Georgia Guard Sherill Baker:
“They isolated (guard Sherill Baker) a lot to get penetration. She was lightning quick and that really bothered us.”
