ATHENS, Ga. – The South Carolina Gamecocks swept Auburn through four events in a 1310.5-1243.5 victory in round one of the Southern Equestrian Championships on Saturday afternoon to advance to the championship round against the No. 1 seed Georgia Bulldogs at 1 pm on Sunday at the Animal Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue.

“WE started out slow in the early competitions but we were able to build momentum and we rode very well,” said head coach Boo Duncan. “We are looking forward to Georgia tomorrow. It will be a big challenge.”

The Gamecocks opened the day with a slim 309-308 victory in equitation over fences led by sophomore Kristen Terebesi who out-rode her opponent by a seven-point margin.

South Carolina then built a substantial lead with decisive victories of 371.5-336 in horsemanship and 311-295 in equitation before finishing the day with a 319-304.5 win in reining. Terebesi also led the Gamecocks in equitation with a 13-point win over her opponent. Meanwhile South Carolina junior Rachel Sternoff led the team in both Western events, posting the high score of the day with a 97 in horsemanship that bested her opponent by a 22-point margin and recording an 81 in reining to beat her opponent by 8.5 points.
