COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina volleyball team defeated College of Charleston and Clemson by scores of 3-0 and 2-0 in its spring tournament Saturday at the Volleyball Competition Facility. The Gamecocks downed Charleston with game scores of 30-18, 30-22, 30-27 and Clemson 30-19, 31-29.

“We played very well today,” associate head coach Ben Somera said. “We gave a great defensive effort and our ball control was much better. The three things we focused on in practice this week — serve and receive, ball control and defense — looked very good.”

USC has one week of spring practice remaining and will cap off its training in Aurora, Ill., playing in an April 22 tournament that features some of the top teams from around the country.
