ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. –

The No. 24 University of South Carolina men’s golf team slipped one spot Saturday into 10th place through the second round of the Southeastern Conference Championship, played at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course (Par 70 – 6,991 Yards). The Gamecocks recorded a team round of 295 and sit at 27 strokes over par heading into Sunday’s final 18 holes.

Sophomore Mark Anderson and freshman Florian Fritsch led South Carolina in Saturday’s second round. Anderson fired a 72, shaving one stroke off his first round performance. The Beaufort, S.C., native is at 145 (+5) for the tournament and moved up three spots into a tie for 28th. Fritsch remained the Gamecocks individual leader, tied for 25th, through the second round. The Wiesloch, Germany, product carded a 73 and owns a two-day total of 144 (+4).

Senior Eirik Johansen shot a 76 and dropped into a tie for 42nd. Johansen, who hails from Stavanger, Norway, holds a total score of 148 (+8). Redshirt freshman Patrick Cunning recorded a 74 and sits tied for 50th. He is 11-over par with a total score of 151. Bamberg, S.C., freshman Allen Koon rounds out the USC lineup in a tie for 54th after shooting 76 for the second straight day (152, +12).

Top-ranked Georgia remained the tournament’s team leader through the second day of play. The Bulldogs are two-under par with a total score of 558. No. 3 Florida closed the gap on the Bulldogs and the Gators are just one stroke behind at 559. Alabama’s Matthew Swan is five strokes under par and moved to the top of the individual leader board (67-68=135).
