ORLANDO, Fla. –

Under sunny skies but windy conditions at Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando on Thursday, the South Carolina men’s golf team shot a team score of 304 and concluded the first round of play in 19th place. The Regional continues with 18 holes on both Friday and Saturday.

South Carolina is currently seven strokes out of the top 10, where it needs to finish to move on to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 31 in Sunriver, Ore.

Sophomore Mark Anderson and senior Eirik Johansen led the Gamecocks by shooting two-over par 74s. The pair is tied for 39th on the individual leader board entering Friday’s scond round. Freshman Florian Fritsch fired a first-round 77 (+5) and is tied for 80th, while sophomore Warren Thomas and freshman Allen Koon both carded a 79 (+7) and are tied for 109th place.

Defending national champion and top-ranked Georgia leads the field after carding a four-under par team score of 284. Wake Forest (285, -3) and UNLV (287, -1) both played the opening round under par and reside in second and third place, respectively.
