Archie, a redshirt on the 2006 NIT Champion Gamecock basketball team, is the fifth Gamecock to participate in the SCORE International program in the last three years. In 2004 Brandon Wallace and Tre’ Kelley participated in the program in the Dominican Republic. In 2005, Stephen McDowell and Renaldo Balkman traveled to play in Germany with the tour.
The SCORE team had a busy day prior to the game. They started the day by visiting a local orphanage where they brought needed items such as food and diapers. The group also presented each of the 114 children a t-shirt with their names printed on the back. Though there was a language barrier, it was evident that the orphans were appreciative of their gifts and were extremely happy to have the players come for their visit.
UASD, founded in 1552, is the oldest university in North America. Located in the capital of the Dominican Republic, it boasts an enrollment of over 250,000 students, which many of them came out to support their team.
