COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior Eirik Johansen has earned honorable mention PING All-America honors, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Thursday. The Gamecock senior concludes his collegiate career as a two-time All-American and three-time first-team All-SEC and All-Southeast Region selection.
Johansen, who hails from Stavanger, Norway, competed in all 50 events that South Carolina entered during his four-year career. He served as a team captain in 2005-06, helping the Gamecocks to a team title at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and trip to the NCAA Championship. Johansen posted a team-best 72.84 stroke average, six top-10 finishes and eight top-20 showing during his final season. The sport and entertainment management major also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District III At-Large honors in May.
Johansen collected first-team All-Southeastern Conference accolades in 2003, 2004 and 2006 and also made the All-Southeast Region squad during those seasons. He was an honorable mention All-American as a freshman in 2003 and leaves South Carolina with a total of 20 top-10 finishes to his credit.
A total of 13 golfers from SEC schools were listed on one of the All-America teams.
