COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian announced another 2006 commitment, as nationally ranked Kathryn Stenberg signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Gamecocks. Stenberg is a native of Rehobeth, Mass., and is currently ranked 52nd on the Bates USA Equitation computer ranking.

“We are excited about Katie becoming a Gamecock,” said head coach Boo Duncan. “She is a veteran equitation rider with experience of showing many different types of horses in equitation and the junior hunters. The New England area is one of the more competitive parts of the country for equitation riders and Katie has held her ground in that area, as well as nationally. She will be a real asset to our hunt seat team.”

In 2006, she finished second in the USET Talent Search, the ASPCA/Maclay Championships and in the USEF Medal Finals, marking her sixth consecutive appearance in the Medal championships. Other accomplishments include being named Reserve Champion in the 2004 New England Equitation Championships, winner of the 2005 PHA Equitation Classic in Lake Placid, N.Y. and third-place finish at the 2005 ASPCA/Maclay Championships in Wellington, Fla. A graduate of St. Mary’s Academy-Bay View, Stenberg also qualified and competed in the 2005 USET Talent Search and the ASPCA Maclay Championships.
