University of South Carolina men’s golfer Florian Fritsch finished tied for 10th in the International European Amateur Championship recently played in Biella, Italy.

The tournament, hosted by the European Golf Association was held Aug. 23 through Aug. 26 and featured 195 golfers from 18 European countries,

Fritsch, a native of Wiesloch, Germany, finished seven-under par with a total score of 285. At the completion of the tournament he was ranked eighth among all European amateur golfers.

Fritsch chose to come to USC instead of joining the European PGA Tour. He has been a standout since his start in the fall 2005 season. He was the top Gamecock performer in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate with a second-place finish. Carolina won the event as a team. Fritch was also the Gamecocks’ top finisher at the 2006 NCAA Championship. He placed in a tie for 21st.
