ROCKY FACE, Ga. —The South Carolina men’s golf team shaved 19 strokes off its first round total by shooting a 290 (+2) Saturday in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, played at The Farm Golf Club (7,002 yards — Par 72) in Rocky Face, Ga. The Gamecocks moved up one spot to 17th heading into Sunday’s final round.

Sophomore Florian Fritsch (Wiesloch, Germany) and freshman Patrick Rada (Anderson, S.C.) paced South Carolina by carding one-under par 71s. Fritsch improved on his first round by six strokes and sits in a tie for 50th individually. Rada was the Gamecocks’ biggest mover, dropping eight strokes of his first round total and moving up into a tie for 60th. Sophomore Allen Koon (Bamberg, S.C.) fired a one-over par 73 and is tied with Rada in 60th.

Freshman George Bryan IV (Chapin, S.C.) carded a 75 on Saturday. He is in a tie for 77th. Junior Warren Thomas (Columbia,S.C.) fired a 77 again today and sits tied for 80th.

Clemson (278-280=558) leads the 18-team field and holds a three-stroke lead on second-place Alabama (276-285=561). North Carolina State’s Darren Blair shot 69 in the second round after opening the tournament with a 65 and remains the individual leader.
