Sept. 21, 2006

Head coach Kent DeMars has announced his South Carolina men’s tennis team’s fall 2006 schedule. The Gamecocks will compete in four events this fall as they prepare for the spring dual match season.

The Gamecocks’ first event, the UNC Fall Invitational, is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 29, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 1, in Chapel Hill, N.C.

South Carolina returns to Columbia to host its annual USC Fall Invitational, Oct. 13-15. In 2005, more than 150 players from 30 schools participated in the event. A similar turnout is expected in 2006.

The Gamecocks will go back to Chapel Hill to compete in the ITA Region 2 Indoor Championships, Oct. 19-22.

Carolina will wrap up its fall slate in the Georgia Bulldog Scramble, played in Athens, Ga., Nov. 3-6.

Five letterwinners return this season, including three players who were ranked in the Fila/ITA preseason rankings. Pedro Rodrigues and junior Yevgeny Supeko are No. 17 in the doubles rankings and junior Jaime Cuellar, a second-team All-SEC selection last season, is No. 114 in the initial singles poll.
