Chapel Hill, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team stands in 15th place with a team score of 309-323=632 after Saturday’s second round at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational, played at the UNC Finley Golf Course.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Through two rounds, freshman Benedicte Toumpsin leads the way for the Gamecocks, sitting in a tie for 40th with a score of 77-79=156.

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Carolina’s round one leaders Jenna Pearson and Taylor Barrett both had problems with hole 15, scoring a triple bogey on the par-4 hole. Pearson was sitting at three-over-par after 11 holes and tied for 27th before a string of tough holes ended at the 15th. Pearson hit par on the next two holes and ended the day carding a 10-over-par 82. She sits tied for 48th after a two round score of 76-82=158.

Barrett, who also double bogeyed hole two, was at seven-over-par before the 15th. The only Gamecock to shoot under-par on the back nine in Friday’s round, Barrett carded a nine-over-par on the back nine Saturday to shoot a 13-over-par on the day. She finished the round tied for 65th on the individual leader board with a 76-85=161.

Junior Camila Mori matched her opening round score despite being the only Gamecock to not register a birdie on the day. She fired an eight-over-par to tie for 59th with a score of 80-80=160. Junior Whitney Simons rounded out the Gamecock effort with a 10-over-par 82 to sit at 81-82=163.

The third and final round will be played Sunday.
