USC Fall Invitational Draws for 10-14-06 | Oct. 13 Results

The University of South Carolina men’s tennis hosted the first day of its USC Fall Invitational Friday in Columbia. Junior Yevgeny Supeko and freshman Pedro Campos were perfect on the day. Both players won their A-1 opening round singles matches and the pair combined for two wins in A-1 doubles to move into the semifinals.

The Invitational features six singles flights and five doubles flights and matches are being played at four locations in Columbia – the Gamecock men’s team’s Sam Daniel Tennis Facility, the Maxcy-Gregg Tennis Center, the Columbia Tennis Center and the USC Indoor Courts.

Supeko defeated the Citadel’s Danny Dosseter, 7-6 (6), 6-2 in his first match of the day. Campos breezed past George Kernoodle of Wofford, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the tandem picked up wins over Chang/Aorila-Ditoui from Hampton, 8-5, and Hurduc/Pivoka from South Carolina State, 8-2, to move into the semifinals. Supeko and Campos will face Alvarez and Koenke of Clemson at 4 p.m. at Sam Daniel Tennis Center.

In B-1 singles action, two Gamecocks advanced in the main draw. Freshman David Wolff topped NC State’s Daniel Shienke, 6-3, 6-1. Classmate Spencer Feldman cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Citadel’s Petrilli Frederic. Redshirt sophomore Thomas Stoddard will compete in the consolation draw after suffering a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Hampton’s Gabriel Groh. Stoddard will meet Alex Frizdon of Wofford on Saturday morning at the Columbia Tennis Center.

Junior Joe Veeder earned a comeback victory over Neil Shine of Georgia Southern, 0-6. 6-4, 6-0, in first round B-2 singles play. Veeder will play Charleston Southern’s Chris Peek in the round of 16 Saturday at Noon at the Columbia Tennis Center.

Results and updated draws will be posted at South Carolina’s official web site USCsports.com each day during the tournament. More than 180 players representing 33 schools are competing in Columbia this weekend.
