South Carolina’s Yevgeny Supeko and Pedro Campos reached the semifinals of the A-1 Singles Flight in the USC Fall Invitational Saturday in Columbia.

Supeko handled Hampton’s Seo-Jae Chang, 6-3,6-4, in the second round match, but had a battle on his hands in the quarterfinals against Roy Sichel of Charlotte Sichel won a lengthy first set 6-3, but Supeko fought back in the second set, eventually overcoming Sichel in a tie break, 7-6 (4) after the marathon match was moved indoors due to darkness. Supeko complete his comeback by winning the third set, 6-3, to move into the semifinals where he will face second-seeded Or Deckel of College of Charleston.

Campos, who is playing in his second collegiate tournament, captured both of his wins in three sets today. Campos dropped the opening set to UAB’s Hans Spragenberg, 6-3, then proceeded to win the second set 6-4 and the final set, 6-4. In the quarterfinals against Troy’s Irving Morales, Campos clinched his spot in the semifinals with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory. Campos will play Daniel Plasma of Auburn-Montgomery Sunday morning.

Supeko and Campos will also compete in the A-1 doubles semifinals tomorrow. The pair was scheduled to meet Clemson’s Carlos Alvarez and Paul Koenke Saturday but the match has been moved to Sunday.

In B-2 singles action, freshmen David Wolff and Spencer Feldman won their respective second round matches before falling in the quarterfinals. Wolff beat Elliott Quibell of Costal Carolina 6-3, 6-2, in the Round of 16 and fell to Wake Forest’s Jason Morganstern, 6-4, 6-1 in the quarters. Feldman was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Radek Pivonka of South Carolina State before dropping a three-set match to Gabriel Mattos of Arkansas, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, in the quarters.

Junior Joe Vedder fell to Chris Peek of Charleston, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round of the B-2 singles draw and redshirt sophomore Thomas Stoddard lost a 6-4, 6-4 match to Wofford’s Alex Frizdon in the B-1 consolation draw.

Singles semifinals and finals and doubles finals will be contested on Sunday. Finals matches will all be played at the Sam Daniel Tennis Courts.
