ABOUT THE WEEK

SETTING THE SCENE: The South Carolina Gamecocks (12-11, 5-7) look to even their conference record this week when they host the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks (12-8, 5-7) and the 10th-ranked LSU Tigers (18-3, 10-2) on Friday and Sunday at 7 and 1:30 p.m. in the Volleyball Competition Facility.

ABOUT ARKANSAS: Arkansas picked up two key wins last weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., against Kentucky and Tennessee by scores of 3-1. Prior to those victories, the Lady’Backs lost five straight to Mississippi, LSU, Alabama, Florida and Auburn. The Arkansas offense is led by Denitza Koleva and her 4.09 kills per game and .262 hitting percentage. She also is second on the squad in digs (254) and digs per game (3.30). Caira Daugherty and Lindsay Scanlan have shared setting duties this season, with Daugherty averaging 5.81 assists per game and Scanlan posting 6.21. Ashley Miller tops Arkansas in digs per game (4.90).

ABOUT LSU: Like Arkansas, LSU dropped Kentucky and Tennessee in sweeps last week for its ninth and 10th conference victories this season. The Tigers boast four players in Lauren DeGirolamo, Melody Clark, Marina Skender and Kyna Washington who average at least three kills per game. Setter Daniela Romero is one of the best in the Southeastern Conference, with a 13.46 assists per game average. Kassi Mikulik leads LSU in digs per game at 4.66 and DeGirolamo is the best blocker with 1.70 blocks per game.

THE ARKANSAS SERIES: Arkansas leads the all-time series with South Carolina by a 12-6 margin. Earlier this year, the Lady Razorbacks downed the Gamecocks 3-1 in Fayetteville, Ark. USC’s last win against Arkansas was by a 3-0 score in 2004 in Columbia, S.C. Carolina is 3-4 all-time at home versus Arkansas.

THE LSU SERIES: The Gamecocks are hoping to end a four-match losing streak to LSU on Sunday. South Carolina suffered a 3-0 setback in Baton Rouge, La., earlier this season. Overall, the Tigers lead the series with USC 11-8. The Gamecocks are 4-4 in home matches with LSU.

South Carolina is hosting Alumni Weekend over Oct. 27-29. Several former Gamecocks will be introduced between games two and three of the Arkansas match on Friday, which starts at 7 p.m. in the Volleyball Competition Facility.
