Orlando, Fla. – Play was suspended due to darkness in the consolation bracket at the NGCA Match Play Championship with South Carolina in the driver’s seat against Southeastern Conference foe Florida. The Gators lead the Gamecocks, 2-1 going into the suspension, but Carolina’s Blythe Worley owns a one-up lead on Florida’s Ornella Jouven with one hole to play, with teammate Whitney Simons one-up on Florida’s Mallory Blackwelder with two holes to play. Play resumes tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

Carolina freshman Bénédicte Toumpsin claimed a four-and-three win over Florida’s Tiffany Chudy, with teammates Taylor Barrett (four-and-two loss to Whitney Myers) and Laura Raffo (five-and-three loss to Sandra Gal) finishing their respective matches before the darkness set in.

The Gamecocks lost their opening round matchup to Duke, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Blue Devils earlier in the day. The NGCA Match Play Championship is a double-elimination event, with the loser of the South Carolina vs. Florida match going home, as the Gators fell to in-state rival Florida State in the first round earlier in the day. The winner of the Florida-South Carolina match faces Alabama tomorrow.
