CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)Dominique Archie had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead South Carolina to a 74-59 win over The Citadel on Monday night.

The Gamecocks (4-1) had trouble shaking the Bulldogs (2-6), who trailed 47-43 with just under 13 minutes to go.

But South Carolina went on a 9-2 run over the next 3 1/2 minutes to take an 11-point lead. A couple of baskets by The Citadel cut the deficit to 56-49 with 6:32 left, but the Bulldogs wouldn’t get any closer.

The Gamecocks shot 56 percent (28-of-50) for the field and made nine of their 20 3-pointers, compared to 37.7 percent (23-of-61) shooting from the field for The Citadel. The Bulldogs had 17 offensive rebounds compared to eight for South Carolina.

Tre Kelley scored 15 points and had seven assists, while Brandon Wallace added 10 points and five blocks for the Gamecocks.

Donny McLendon had 17 points, Kevin Hammack added 16 points and J’Mel Everhart pulled down 14 rebounds for The Citadel.
