Dec. 1, 2006

University of South Carolina senior Mike Sambursky received an invitation to the 2007 adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine, held Jan. 5-8 at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Sambursky is one of 58 Division I athletes named to the initial list for the Combine, which serves as an opportunity for MLS teams to scout players prior to the Jan. 12 Super Draft.

Sambursky, who served as a team co-captain in 2006, earned All-South Region first team honors for the second consecutive year earlier this week. The team co-captain led the Gamecocks in scoring each of the last two seasons, compiling 22 points on seven goals and eight assists in 2006. Sambursky was also recognized on the all-Conference USA first team in 2005 and 2006 and leaves Carolina having scored 62 career points and ranked eighth in school history with 22 assists.

The 2007 adidas MLS Player Combine will see players divided into four separate teams, which will play doubleheaders at Lockhart Stadium on Jan. 5, 6 and 8. John Trask (University of Illinois at Chicago), John Rennie (Duke University), Mike Noonan (Brown University) and Greg Andrulis (George Mason University) will coach the four teams. MLS coaching staffs and general managers from all 13 MLS teams will be on hand to scout players for the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, which will take place in Indianapolis on Jan. 12. The SuperDraft is held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention.

The 58 players named on the initial list were selected by a panel of Division I coaches representing all NCAA conferences. The college coaches nominated and voted for players in conjunction with their counterparts from MLS.

Of the 48 players selected in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, 23 participated in the 2006 adidas MLS Player Combine.
