USC Head Coach Susan Walvius:
On the game: “The help defense was much better today. The chemistry and communication was very good today. We had some very unselfish players, and players who weren’t afraid to make shots. We were playing aggressively and it was an overall good game.”
On Lauren Simms:
“She’s dong a great job. One of the things a good point guard should do is worry about the other players on the court, and she’s doing that. She’s growing and really embracing that leadership role. It’s exciting for us to watch her develop.” On focusing on defense in practice: “We spent some time yesterday practicing our defense. They did a good job executing our defensive plan so it’s starting to even out.”
USC Player Lauren Simms:
On her leadership role: “I play game by game. I’m getting more comfortable and trying to do what the coaches ask me and take everything in.”
USC Player Iva Sliskovic:
On her individual game: “With this team, each night someone else steps up. I think my points are a reflection of my team.”
South Carolina State Head Coach Tonya Mackey:
On the game: “I felt that our kids were not focused. We have a young team and what we have consistently seen is inconsistency. We know it’s something we have to work on, but the good thing that we have seen as coaches is that our players don’t give up. Now we just have to make sure that we are on the same page and understand that we can’t play decent one half and not do anything the second half.”
On South Carolina: “South Carolina has a great team and look like they are going to determine their own destiny during conference play. They are really strong at guard and their post players being able to finish makes them a strong team overall.”
