Recap | Box Score | Notes

Head Coach Susan Walvius

“We played defense. We didn’t play a whole lot of defense for about 30 min today. The last 10 minutes ot the game we dug down and got some stops. Arkansas is a very good basketball team and dangerous at home. They shoot it so well from the perimeter. I thought we did a much better job of defending and rebounding and that’s what wins games in the SEC. I’m really proud of our team. Lauren Simms played a big game for us today. “

“Every win is important. They’re all important. We’ve got four games left and two of those games are on the road. We’ve not played all that well on the road so this is important for us to show we can win on the road. Come back from behind 10 on the road to a very good Arkansas team is an important one.”

“Lauren Simms had a great game. We pushed her tonight. She’s a kid that’s hard to get mad at because she’s typically the hardest worker in practice. She does everything right. She’s one kid that our team will support her all the time because she works so hard. We challenged her a little bit, we got her back and the team responded well.”

Lakesha Tolliver was critical down the stretch. Not just offensively but defensively she had some big stops for us down the stretch.”

“Anytime you can go on the road and win in this league (is big). You have to remember Arkansas was ranked a few weeks ago and came into SEC play (with a )15-1 record. We knew this would be a battle for us. They are a very good basketball team that shoots very well and is extremely athletic. Most impressive to me was their defense today. (Look at) how many deflections (they had). For our team to step up, dig down and win this game – I’m proud of them.”

“Being down 10 didn’t faze us today. We fought hard and when you do that on the road you have a chance to be successful. Communication was good today. We had some players that didn’t have their best game. We have that everyday, every game someone different will step up. We had a veteran group and stayed with our seniors late in the game. They did a nice job. They’ve been here before, know what we have to do to win and got it done.”

Senior Guard Lauren Simms

“We just had to step it up on defense. Once we go the defense going the offense came so I just credit the defense for that.”

Regarding season-high scoring effort:

” My teammates saved good screens. It just felt good coming off so I just kept taking what was there. My teammates got me open. You have to be ready no matter the situation’s out there. Fortunately I was (ready) tonight.”
