Recap | Box Score | Notes

USC Head Coach Susan Walvius

“(Vanderbilt’s) defense presents a lot of problems for teams. It did for us. We had the same game plan we had at our place. We wanted to execute with a real aggressive style. We spent two days on it and then didn’t execute it on the floor today.”

“It’s a tough coaching situation because you’re sitting on the baseline here. It’s a loud facility (and) you need a lot of communication from your point guard position. Lea Fabbri had a pretty decent second half for us in the point guard spot. We outscored this Vandy team in the second half. In the first half, it was too big of a deficit to overcome. They don’t lose too many games here; it is one of the toughest places to play in college basketball. Every team in our league has a home court advantage but you have that much more of an advantage here.”

“They shot the ball extremely well today. They shot well from the free-throw line, I think they were 19-of-20, so 19 points came from there. We had a lot of offensive rebounds today but we didn’t convert them. It was disappointing.”

“They have all the ingredients you need for a good basketball team. This team is very good, they shot the ball extremely well, tough to beat and tough place to play. We have to go on to our next game. There’s not a whole lot you can learn from this one to tell the truth. We’ve got a good basketball team, we know that. We’re better when we’re up-tempo and aggressive. We have to get back to doing that.”

Regarding Stacy Booker’s foul trouble and Lauren Simms:

“Lauren Simms has a pulled muscle and that affected her the last few days. When u have two kids that provide a lot of perimeter scoring and our not as effective because of foul situation or injury, you have to find something (else).”

“Our defense is pretty solid although we didn’t cover their three-point shooters very well which is unusual. We need to execute our system offensively and be able to go to second and third options. Everyone this time of year can take away your first option.”
