COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina men’s golf team staged a repeat performance by shooting a team score of 311, but fell to 14th place at the end of Monday’s second round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational, played at the par-72, 6,910-yard Sawgrass Country Club. The 15-team field features six teams ranked in Golfweek’s top 25, including four in the top 10.
The tournament, which the Gamecocks won in both 1998 and 2004, concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes. South Carolina tees of at 8:39 a.m.
Sophomore Baker Elmore fired the low round for South Carolina with a 76 today. Elmore is tied for 36th on the individual leader board with a score of 78-76=154 (+10). Sophomore Allen Koon and Sunday’s team leader, freshman George Bryan IV, share 42nd place. Koon shot 77 while Bryan carded an 80 in the second round. The pair stands at 11-over par.
Junior Mark Anderson posted a second-round 78 and sophomore Florian Fritsch struggled with an 84, leaving them tied for 59th and 73rd, respectively.
No. 1 Alabama maintains is position at the top of the team leader board heading into Tuesday’s final round.
