The South Carolina men’s tennis team is well-represented in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis rankings, released on Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Two Gamecocks achieved individual rankings in the first polls since the start of the 2007 spring season. Junior Yevgeny Supeko is No. 58 among the singles top 100. In addition, Supeko combined with freshman Pedro Campos for a No. 42 ranking in the doubles top 60.
South Carolina is also No. 37 in the team poll.
Supeko is unbeaten this spring with an 8-0 record in dual matches. The Daytona Beach, Fla., native owns an 16-4 record overall this season and is in the midst of a 10-match win streak that dates back to the fall season.
Supeko and Campos have an impressive 12-2 record, including a 7-1 mark this spring, in doubles. The tandem won the USC Fall Invitational title and has continued their success early in the spring season. Their only loss came to Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski of Wake Forest, who are No. 17 in the doubles rankings.
South Carolina begins a busy stretch on Sunday, Feb. 25, when it hosts defending Southern Conference Champion Elon and the Ohio Valley’s predicted winner in 2007 Samford at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, at the Sam Daniel Tennis Facility. The Gamecocks will play Georgia Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at home before heading on the road to start SEC play at Mississippi State (March 2) and Mississippi (March 4).
