COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 59 South Carolina men’s tennis team fell No. 20 Clemson, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon in Columbia. The Tigers improved to 25-8 (4-5 ACC) with the victory while the Gamecocks dropped to 11-12 (2-8 SEC) on the season. South Carolina freshman Pedro Campos defeated Clemson’s nationally-ranked Clement Reix at No. 2 singles.

The two teams began play outdoors at the Sam Daniel Tennis Facility, but shortly into the doubles portion of the match, rain forced a move inside to the USC Fieldhouse.

The Tigers opened up a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Clement Reix and Ryan Young, who are ranked 39th nationally, defeated Carolina’s Thomas Stoddard and Joseph Veeder, 8-2. South Carolina prevailed at the No. 3 doubles position as the freshman tandem of Ivan Cressoni and Pedro Campos topped Carlos Alvarez and Rok Bijzak, 8-4. The Tigers took the clinching match at No. 2 doubles. Jarmaine Jenkins and Kevin Fleck overcame Yevgeny Supeko and David Wolff, 8-4.

Campos made quick work of No. 122 Reix at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1. The rookie’s victory knotted the match 1-1 and improved his singles record to 23-13 on the season.

The Tigers regained the lead with No. 113 Bizjak’s 6-2, 6-1, win over Wolff at the No. 4 singles spot. Clemson went ahead 3-1 when Jarmaine Jenkins secured a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Supeko at No. 1 singles. Young, who is ranked No. 116, clinched the Tiger victory by defeating Cressoni, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 4 position.

Fleck defeated Stoddard, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6 singles and Alvarez posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over South Carolina freshman Spencer Feldman at No. 5 singles.

The Gamecocks will host their regular season finale against No. 18 Florida on Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at the Sam Daniel Tennis Facility.
