Baton Rouge, La. – Through Friday’s second round at the NCAA Women’s Golf East Regional, South Carolina is tied for ninth at three over par. UCLA leads the field at 12 under. The Gamecocks have been very consistent, as no South Carolina player has carded a round higher than one over par through two rounds. However, scores have been low throughout the field, as a whopping eight teams are at even par or better through Friday’s second round.
Gamecock junior Blythe Worley leads the way for South Carolina with a 72-72=144 (E). At even par through two rounds, one would think that Worley is among the top five competitors in the field. However, she is tied for 20th on the individual leader board, 10 strokes behind UCLA’s Sydnee Michaels who leads the field.
South Carolina’s Camila Mori, Jenna Pearson and Bénédicte Toumpsin are tied for 31st on the individual leader board at one over par, with Whitney Simons tied for 40th at two over.
The Gamecocks are well within striking range for an NCAA Championship berth going into Saturday’s final round, as Carolina is tied for ninth and is within five strokes of five teams. The top eight teams on the leader board following tomorrow’s final round advance to the NCAA Championship.
