WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team fired a team total of 291 Wednesday in the opening round of the NCAA Championship, played at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s Gold Course (Par 70 – 6,083 yards). The Championship continues Thursday through Saturday.
The Gamecocks, who teed off at 7 a.m. this morning, are 16 shots off the tournament leader Stanford (275, -5) and sit in 25th place. Freshman George Bryan IV led South Carolina by shooting even par, which puts him tied for 29th individually. Junior Warren Thomas carded a 73 (+3) to share 89th place. Junior Mark Anderson and sophomore Mark Silvers both posted a four-over par 74 and are tied for 107th. Sophomore Florian Fritsch rounded out the Carolina lineup today with 76 (+6) to tie for 138th.
South Carolina will tee off beginning at 12:12 in Thursday’s second round. The third round is scheduled for Friday. At the conclusion of the third round, the 30-team field will be cut in half for Saturday’s fourth and final round.
