COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina head coach Ben Somera announced the school’s 2007 volleyball schedule Wednesday. Nine non-conference matches and 20 SEC contests are on tap for the Gamecocks this fall.

South Carolina begins its trek at the Delaware/Asics Invitational over Aug. 24-25 in Newark, Del. The Gamecocks face Binghamton at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 24 and face Boston College and Delaware the following day at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The Third Degree Sportswear Invitational hosted by Virginia Commonwealth represents South Carolina’s second tournament from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1. Day one has the Gamecocks squaring off with host VCU at 7 p.m. followed by matches with Maryland and George Washington the next day at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The Gamecocks open the home portion of their schedule hosting the Nike Gamecock Invitational, with action starting at 10 a.m. Sept. 7 with South Carolina playing Rice. Later in the day at 7:30 p.m., the Gamecocks play Troy and conclude the tournament with a match-up against Appalachian State at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 8.

South Carolina remains in Columbia, S.C., for its opening weekend of SEC play, beginning with Auburn at 7 p.m. Sept. 14. Georgia travels to the Palmetto State for a 1:30 p.m. contest two days later.

A tough stretch of 10 matches begins for the Gamecocks following Georgia, with eight coming on the road. The first of two four-match road stretches kicks off at LSU on Sept. 21 and continues at Mississippi on Sept. 23. The ensuing weekend has South Carolina at Alabama and Mississippi State on Sept. 28 and 30.

Two homes matches with Tennessee and Kentucky at 7 and 1 p.m. Oct. 5 and 7 await the Gamecocks upon their return from Starkville, Miss. A midweek match at Florida on Wednesday, Oct. 10, marks the beginning of another steak of four straight tilts away from home. The next three come at Arkansas, Georgia and Auburn on Oct. 14, 19 and 21.

Six of South Carolina’s final eight regular-season matches will be played in Columbia. The first of four in a row features the Gamecocks and Lady Rebels of Ole Miss at 7 p.m. Oct. 26. LSU takes on the Gamecocks at 1:30 p.m. two days later, and Florida stops in for the return midweek contest Halloween evening at 7 p.m. The Gamecocks and Lady Razorbacks from Arkansas meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 in the finale of a four-match home stand.

The last two road matches for South Carolina come at Kentucky and Tennessee on Nov. 9 and 11 before hosting Mississippi State and Alabama on Nov. 16 and 18 at 7 and 1:30 p.m. to close out the regular season.
