Brondby, Denmark – South Carolina freshman golfer Erika Holmen’s fourball team shot even par 72 Friday to sit in a tie for second in the first round of competition at the Nordic Team Championship, held at the Frederikshavn Golf Club in Denmark.

Holmen, representing Sweden in the Ladies team category, combined with her partner Sara Ardstrom to shoot two-under on the front nine before finishing at even par. The duo is tied for second at three strokes behind the leaders, Monica Christiansen and Therese Koelbaek of Denmark.

After all competition Friday, Sweden stands in second place with an aggregate score of -2 after leading the field in the Boys, Men and Senior Ladies categories. Denmark leads the Championship with an aggregate score of -4. Finland stands in third at +45 with Iceland (+57) and Norway (+110) rounding out the field.

The Nordic Team Championship is a tournament pitting the five Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – against each other in eight categories. Each category consists of four players who will team up in two fourball matches on Friday, two foursome matches on Saturday and play four single matches on Sunday with the three best scores counting. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be given in each category and the lowest aggregate score will decide which team will be the overall winner.
