Brondby, Denmark – South Carolina women’s golfer Erika Holmen completed second round play Saturday at the Nordic Team Championship and has Sweden in position to win the first ever championship, held at the Frederikshavn Golf Club in Denmark.

Holmen, a freshman from Gothenburg, Sweden, and foursome partner Sara Ardstrom shot an eight-over 80 to finish in seventh place in the Ladies category. The duo sat in a four-way tie for third place before hitting double-bogey on the 18th hole to drop four spots. After two rounds of competition, Holmen and Ardstrom sit at eight-over and rank seventh in the Ladies category. As a team, the Sweden Ladies are third heading into the final round of competition at +14. Denmark (+10) leads the category followed by Iceland (+12).

After the first two rounds played in the fourball and foursome format only two shots separate Sweden and Denmark in the overall team standings, with the Sweden taking a two shot lead before the final day’s single matches. The Championship round on Sunday consists of singles play with the three single best scores of each nation counting towards the overall standings.

The Nordic Team Championship is a tournament pitting the five Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – against each other in eight categories based on age and gender. Each category consists of four players who will team up in two fourball matches on Friday, two foursome matches on Saturday and play four single matches on Sunday with the three best scores counting. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be given in each category and the lowest aggregate score will decide which team will be the overall winner.

Aggregate scores after fourball and foursome matches:

1. Sweden +111

2. Denmark +113

3. Finland +201

4. Iceland +260

5. Norway +327
