Brondby, Denmark – South Carolina women’s golfer Erika Holmen’s team won its individual category and helped Sweden claim the first ever Nordic Team Championship, held at the Frederikshavn Golf Club in Denmark.

Holmen, competing for Sweden in the Ladies category with three other golfers, finished the three round tournament at +40 to claim first in the overall standings for Ladies. The Swedes entered the singles round in third, trailing Denmark and Iceland, before scoring +26 to edge Iceland by one stroke in the final Ladies standings.

In the overall team standings, Sweden (+261) won the championship by 18 strokes after claiming six of the eight categories competing. Denmark took second at +279 in what remained a close race throughout the tournament with Sweden leading by two strokes entering the final day. Finland (+415), Iceland (+508) and Norway (+640) round out the scoring.

The Nordic Team Championship is a tournament pitting the five Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – against each other in eight categories based on age and gender. Each category consists of four players who will team up in two fourball matches on Friday, two foursome matches on Saturday and play four single matches on Sunday with the three best scores counting. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be given in each category and the lowest aggregate score will decide which team will be the overall winner.
