Columbia, SC – South Carolina head coach Dave Odom announced today with pride that 2004 Gamecock graduate and former letterwinner Sheldon Everett has been hired as the Director of Basketball Operations. Everett replaces Bill Old, who took a similar position at Virginia Tech University.

Everett worked at Decision One Mortgage as a mortgage broker the past year in Nashville, Tenn., and prior to that post, he worked for two years in Lexington selling insurance at Farm Bureau Insurance.

He has a degree in Business Management from South Carolina with an emphasis in Management and Marketing. Everett, a native of Columbia and 2000 graduate of Lexington High School, played three years under Odom at South Carolina and was a member of the 2003 and 2004 SEC Academic Honor Roll. While at Lexington High, his team won the 2000 South Carolina state title. The Wildcats were also the 1999 and 2000 Upper State Champions.

“In replacing Bill Old I wanted someone who has an understanding and an appreciation for Carolina basketball in the state. I also wanted someone who had a love for coaching as a profession,” said Odom. “Being a graduate of Carolina and a former player as well as a native of Columbia gives him the perfect resume for success. He will compliment our staff in just the right way and be a great role model for our players.”

“The University of South Carolina provides an excellent opportunity for me to learn how a college basketball program is built within best league in the nation (SEC). More importantly, the chance to come back to the program I played college basketball to begin my coaching career is a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Everett, a South Carolina letterwinner from 2002-04.

Everett is the son of Duane and Michelle Everett.
