NEWARK, Del. — The South Carolina volleyball team moved its 2007 record to 2-0 Saturday at the Delaware/Asics Invitational in Newark, Del. The Gamecocks were 3-0 (30-20, 30-19, 30-22) winners against Boston College in the first of two matches for the day. South Carolina and Delaware face off later in the day at 7 p.m. in the tournament’s final contest.

Freshman Dani Bedore recorded a match-high 10 kills on 17 tries and made just one hitting error for a stellar .529 hitting percentage. She chipped in four assists, six digs and three block assists as well. Ivana Kujundzic, Hannah Lawing and Megan Laughlin all contributed nine kills. Lawing and Sarah Cline each had 13 digs to lead the Gamecocks. Jordan Bradosky and Petra Lorenzi shared setting duties, with Bradosky compiling 23 assists and Lorenzi 19.

Taylor Williams posted eight kills for the Eagles on 25 attempts and made seven digs. Audrey Eichler recorded seven kills and Abigail Hasebroock had six to go along with four assisted blocks. Cathy Quilico was BC’s leader in digs with a dozen, and Brittany Pierpont had 15 assists.

The Gamecocks hit .256 (49-18-121) for the match compared to .092 (30-19-119) for Boston College. Digs favored South Carolina 56-38, as did blocks 9-6 and service aces 7-2.

After the score was tied 9-9 in game one, Carolina took over and won seven of the next eight rallies for a six-point lead. The Eagles answered with a 3-0 run, but the Gamecocks countered with four straight points to go ahead 20-13. Boston College never closed to within more than five points the remainder of the game.

South Carolina wasted no time in the second game taking a commanding lead. Up 16-8, the Gamecocks fired off four points in a row, capped by a kill from Belita Salters. The advantage ballooned to as many as 15 at 25-10 after Salters got another kill to finish off a 4-0 spurt.

The Gamecocks built a 20-13 lead in the final game before a 4-0 run by Boston College forced coach Ben Somera to call for a timeout. After regrouping, the Gamecocks used a pair of kills by Bedore and Kujundzic and several miscues by the Eagles to put the match away.
