COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s soccer game against Longwood orginially set for Friday night has been cancelled. Adverse weather conditions in the area caused the game to be suspended just minutes into the second half after a near two-hour weather delay on Friday evening at Stone Stadium. Carolina held a 1-0 lead at the time of the suspension. Freshman forward Blake Brettschneider scored the goal for the Gamecocks on an assist from sophomore midfielder Mario Burstein.

The teams competed for 50 minutes before the game was called due to continuous lightening strikes in the area. In order to have a game be official and complete, the two teams would have had to compete to at least the 70th minute of the contest.

Carolina resumes action at the adidas Gamecock Classic on Sunday, facing Lipscomb at 2:30 p.m. Presbyterian College and Longwood will meet at Noon on Sunday.
