FRANKLIN, Tenn. – South Carolina women’s golf is tied for 14th after day one of the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club behind the play of freshman Erika Holmen and sophomore Bénédicte Toumpsin. The Gamecocks finished the day at 294 (+6), 14 strokes behind tournament leader No. 2 Arizona State, which tied the tournament record with a first-round 280.

Holmen opened the tournament with a 70 (-2) and is tied for 13th place. She posted four birdies and was -2 on par 4s on the day. Toumpsin stands in 49th position after shooting 74 (+2) Friday afternoon. Seniors Camila Mori and Blythe Worley are one stroke behind the sophomore to share 57th place, while senior Whitney Simons carded a 77 (+5). Mori’s -2 average on par 3s is tied for the tournament lead.

In the individual standings, #3 UCLA’s Tiffany Joh leads the way with a 65 (-7) in round one. Amanda Blumenherst of #1 Duke is one stroke behind with a pair of Arizona State Sun Devils fill the next two slots. Last year’s individual medalist Alison Walshe of #13 Arizona is three strokes off the lead at 68.
