COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s soccer team – one of four remaining teams in the nation with a perfect record – continues its climb up the national charts this week and is ranked in the top 10 in three polls. The Gamecocks (7-0-0) peak at No. 7 in the Soccer America poll, jumping six spots after winning the Carolinas’ Cup last weekend.

Carolina also jumped six spots to No. 9 in Soccer Times and No. 10 in the NSCAA/adidas coaches poll, making the Gamecocks the highest placing team from the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina improves four spots to No. 16 in the Soccer Buzz rankings. In addition, Carolina sits at No. 1 in the NSCAA Southeast region poll and holds steady at No. 4 in the Soccer Buzz Southeast regional poll. All four national rankings are the highest appearance that the Gamecocks have made in each poll.

The Gamecocks join Stanford (6-0-0), Marquette (7-0-0) and North Texas (6-0-0) as the only Division 1 teams remaining with a perfect 1.000 win percentage, marking no losses or ties. Carolina is in the midst of a school-record seven-game winning streak and currently matches the 2001 team for the longest unbeaten streak to start the season. The Gamecocks will attempt to tie the longest unbeaten streak in school history this weekend as the 2003 team holds the mark at eight games set in the middle of the season. Carolina also brings a 13-game home unbeaten streak into this weekend’s match-up.

South Carolina concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule this weekend when it travels to Clemson and hosts Marshall. The game against Clemson is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s game against Marshall is set for 1 p.m. The first 100 fans to Sunday’s game will receive a free South Carolina soccer keychain, and all youth under 18 will be admitted free with a paying adult. Sunday’s game is also part of the Harvest Hope Food Drive with all fans receiving $3 admission with a food item. Live stats and the audio broadcast can be found online at www.gamecocksonline.com.
