BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian returns for its third competition of the season when they host the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Saturday, Oct. 6, at OneWood Farm in Blythewood. The competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

“We are looking forward to hosting South Dakota State this weekend,” head coach Boo Duncan said. “We have not competed against them in a couple of years and think we will have a good meet. We plan to use several freshmen to see how they will do in a competitive situation. It should be an exciting competition.”

The two teams last met in 2006 with Carolina claiming victories in the dual-competition (April 1) and the Western-only competition (Feb. 4). In the Western-only competition, the Gamecocks claimed a 520-462.5 victory. In the dual competition, Carolina claimed an 1146.5-1143 victory despite recording two zero scores in equitation due to critical mistakes.

Riding for the Gamecocks in equitation will be senior Ciara Stuart, sophomores Megan Massaro and Courtney Reese, and freshmen Luci Laffitte and Victoria Middleton. The competition will be the first of the season for Stuart, Laffitte and Reese, and it will be Massaro’s first ride in equitation on the flat this year. In equitation over fences, Carolina will ride seniors Kristen Terebesi and Ashley Rohde along with sophomores Eleanor Kunsman and Megan Massaro. It will be Kunsman’s first collegiate competition.

On the Western side, Carolina will ride seniors Allison Bradley and Michelle Grah, junior Katie Grossnickle and sophomores Amy Biffle and Rachel Stas in horsemanship. Bradley will also ride in reining along with sophomore Emily Bookwalter and freshmen Chloe Gray and Kyla Thurlow. Gray and Thurlow have both recorded victories already for Carolina in their first season with the team.

Carolina will next hit the road for competitions against Oklahoma State and Kansas State. The Gamecocks and Cowgirls will compete Saturday, Oct. 27, in Stillwater before Carolina travels to Kansas State on Sunday, Oct. 28.
