CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With three players at +1 or better in the second round, South Carolina women’s golf moved into 12th place in the Lady Tar Heel Invitational Saturday. Sophomore Benedicte Toumpsin posted three birdies en route to an even-par 72 to grab a share of 20th place heading into Sunday’s final round.
Starting on the back nine in round two, Toumpsin made the turn after bogeys on two of the last three holes. She rallied to close her round with a pair of biries on two of the last four holes, including the ninth.
Seniors Camila Mori and Blythe Worley made huge moves on Saturday with matching 73s. After a fist-round 79, Mori’s +1 Saturday came courtesy of three birdies and put her into 40th place. Worley shaved eight strokes off her first-round score to move into 49th place. After getting off to a shaky start with a double bogey on the 12th, Worley played the front nine a -1 with three birdies.
Sophomore Erika Holmen shot 78 on Saturday after a 77 in the opening round, putting her in 60th place. Senior Laura Raffo’s 83 in the second round has her in 83rd position.
Overall, Tennesse surged into the lead, leading No. 1 Duke by three strokes. Friday’s leader Wake Forest fell into a tie for fourth, seven shots off the pace. Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst took the lead in the individual race with a second-round 68. She is three strokes ahead of Georgia’s Alina Lee and Wake Forest’s Natalie Sheary.
