Saturday Draw Sheets
The University of South Carolina men’s tennis team completed day one of the 2007 Gamecock Invitational, posting four singles and one doubles victory. Sophomore Pedro Campos, seeded No. 2 in the A-1 singles bracket, posted the top Gamecock win of the day, advancing to Saturday’s round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Scott Robertson of Jacksonville State. Saturday’s action begins at 8 a.m. at all four sites (Sam Daniel Tennis Facility, the Maxcy-Gregg Tennis Center, the Columbia Tennis Center and the USC Indoor Courts) of the tournament.
“We competed the way we expected to on day one,” South Carolina head coach Kent DeMars said. “We won more singles matches than we lost and today was a great chance for us to see what the young guys are all about.”
Also advancing in singles action for the Gamecocks was sophomore David Wolff who will play in Saturday’s round of 16 after defeating Andrew Veeder of Gardner-Webb, 7-5, 6-1. In the B-1 singles flight, sophomore Thomas Stoddard defeated Jan Langer of South Carolina State (6-3, 6-4) and freshman Chris Sheehan earned a victory over Steven Myers of the College of Charleston (6-4, 6-1), rounding out USC’s singles victories.
