In conjunction with the 100 Years of Gamecock Basketball celebration, the South Carolina Athletics Department has made a number of exciting changes that will be immediately visible to fans upon arrival at the Colonial Center.

“Through input from our 100 Years of Basketball Committee and meetings with former basketball lettermen and fans, we felt it was important to showcase the history of our basketball program in the Colonial Center,” said Athletics Director Eric Hyman.

Fans will first notice the new street banners outside the arena featuring the Gamecock Greats from the 100 Years of Gamecock Basketball. Each banner is double-sided and each Great will have a banner displaying their accomplishments at South Carolina.

Upon entry into the Colonial Center Atrium, the large player banners are visible on the right and left sides of the doors. The banner representing the men’s team showcases 1957 National Scoring Leader Grady Wallace and 1981 National Scoring Leader Zam Fredrick. The banner representing the women’s team features 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist and former Gamecock Shannon Johnson and South Carolina’s all-time leading scorer Sheila Foster.

Above the cases for South Carolina’s retired jerseys, a new Hall of Fame mural has been installed featuring all of the basketball lettermen honored as members of the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Lastly, once fans enter the seating area, they will see the retired jerseys as well as postseason and championship banners for the men’s and women’s teams hanging from the rafters.

This year promises to be an exciting one for Gamecock Basketball. Don’t forget to visit the 100 Years of Gamecock Basketball homepage and vote for All-Decade and All-Century teams. Great tickets for all home games can still be purchased at GamecocksOnline.com, the Colonial Center Box Office or by calling 800-4SC-FANS.
