COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s soccer team has announced that it will host its annual Alumni Game on Saturday, April 19 at Stone Stadium. The game will follow the conclusion of the spring season, with dates and opponents for the spring schedule to be announced at a later time.
The Alumni Game pits the current Gamecock squad against Carolina alumni in two halves of soccer. Last season’s game saw over 20 alumni return to participate. All former players of the program are invited to attend. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to contact the South Carolina soccer offices at (803) 777-1940.
South Carolina is coming off one of the best season’s in program history, finishing 14-6-3 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history. The eight seniors are members of the first class to win an SEC Tournament game – and advanced to the semifinals twice – and led Carolina to its first victory over conference-rival Tennessee. Off the field, four Gamecocks this season earned All-South Region honors, including senior Ashley Kirk who became Carolina’s first four-time All-SEC member. Brittiny Rhoades earned Freshman All-America honors and Blakely Mattern became South Carolina’s first All-American in addition to being the first sophomore in conference history to earn SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
