Feb. 13, 2008

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s soccer program has announced that 14 student-athletes will join the Gamecocks in the 2008 season. The list includes the South Carolina high school Player of the Year, an NSCAA/adidas All-American, a Scholar All-American, two All-Region selections, three regional Olympic Development Program members and a Canadian national team member.

“Our coaching staff is very excited about this class of freshmen players,” head coach Shelley Smith said. “This is the most talented group of players we have brought into the program and we are anxious to see the impact they will have beginning this fall. We have lost some key senior players from fall, but we are confident this recruiting class will fill some of those holes they have left and they do complement our returning players quite well. We will be a young team, but by far the most talented team we have had here at USC. Our team looks forward to continuing to build on the success we have had and we see these newcomers helping us achieve even greater goals in the future.”
