COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team defeated Elon, 4-0, Friday at the USC Indoor Fieldhouse. With the win, the Gamecocks improve to 7-1 on the season.

The Gamecocks started off strong by taking the doubles point with two wins over the Phoenix. Elon took the first doubles match as Mason Schermerhorn and Alberto Rojas defeated South Carolina’s Jaime Cuellar and Ivan Cressoni. The Gamecock duo of Yevgeny Supeko and Diego Cubas downed Elon’s Damon Gooch and Philip Nemec to add a win for the Gamecocks. South Carolina’s tandem of Pedro Campos and Johannes Pulsfort was leading 7-4 before Elon’s duo of Oscar Podlewski and Chase Helpingstine came back to send the two teams into a tiebreaker. Campos and Pulsfort sealed the doubles point for the Gameocks with a 7-1 tiebreak victory.

The Gamecocks swept the singles points as Campos claimed the second point for South Carolina with a 6-2, 6-3 downing of Schermerhorn. Pulsfort followed shortly after with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Elon’s Nemec. Supeko clinched the match for the Gamecocks defeating Gooch in a second set tiebreaker 6-1, 7-6 (6).

The Gamecocks, now 7-1 on the season will continue their weekend as they travel to Georgia Tech on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match to conclude weekend action. Visit www.GamecocksOnline.com for further updates on the men’s tennis team.
