ATLANTA, GA. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to Georgia Tech on Sunday in non-conference play. With the loss, USC falls to 7-2 for the year. Sophomore Pedro Campos and classmate Ivan Cressoni each tallied singles victories in the loss.

Georgia Tech swept all three doubles matches to gain the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. USC’s Diego Cubas and Yevgeny Supeko fell 8-4 at No. 1 to Scott Blackmon and Ryan Smith, 8-4. The Yellow Jackets also proved too strong at the No. 2 and 3 doubles positions, as the teams of Johannes Pulsfort and Pedro Campos, and Jaime Cuellar and Ivan Cressoni fell 8-2 and 8-6 in their respective matches.

Both Carolina points came in singles play. At No. 3, Campos defeated Blackmon in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, and Cressoni earned a comeback victory at No. 6 against Miguel Mugruza, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Supeko, Cubas, Pulsfort and Cuellar all suffered losses in singles play for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina begins Southeastern Conference play next weekend, traveling to Kentucky on Feb. 29 and Vanderbilt on March 2.
