COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina rising junior Taylor Barrett shot a 72 at the Lexington, N.C., qualifier to earn a spot in the 2008 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. The top golf tournament in the United States for female amateur golfers, this year’s event will tee off at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore., on Aug. 4.

Barrett was one of six players to qualify out of the 49-golfer field at Sapona Country Club in Lexington, N.C., on July 9. Her 72 matched that of three other players and was four shots behind the event winner, Garrett Phillips, who fired a 68. In all, there were 16 qualifying events nationally.
