BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The SC Department of Agriculture, the SC Peach Council, and the SC Watermelon Board and Association will host a South Carolina Equestrian Team Recognition Celebration at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at One Wood Farm, 1201 Syrup Mill Rd., Blythewood, SC.

SC Department of Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers, the Department of Agriculture, and the members of the agriculture family want to recognize the team for their outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments with sliced Certified SC Grown watermelon, peaches, and peach ice cream. In addition, the team will showcase their equestrian expertise and their beautiful horses to those attending.

The Carolina equestrian team, coached by Boo Major, is one of the elite programs in the nation on and off the field with two overall national championships since 2005 and 18 members on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.

The equine industry is a vital part of the state’s agriculture industry. In addition to the millions of dollars generated by the equine industry, owners and animals improve our quality of life.
