PINEHURST, N.C. – South Carolina freshman Wesley Bryan carded a second-round 69 (-1) on the No. 4 course at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club to earn the second seed in match play at the U.S. Amateur Championship. He finished two strokes behind medalist Robbie Fillmore, who blistered the No. 4 course with a 65 on Tuesday. Gamecock junior Paul Woodbury will join Bryan in match play as he finished stroke play in 33rd place, while 2007-08 senior Mark Anderson closed the first portion of the event in 47th position.

After opening the tournament with a 67 to hold a share of the first-round lead, Bryan was rock solid early in his second round, scoring par on six of the first seven holes. He made the turn at one-over after holing a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole. A birdie on No. 10 brought him back to even, and he rolled on with four more pars. After going birdie-bogey on the next two par-4s, Bryan birdied the only other par-5 on the course, No. 17, to get his round back to one-under. For the tournament, Bryan played the par-3s and par-5s both at two-under and was even on the par-4s over his two rounds.

Woodbury answered his first-round 73 with a 70 on the No. 4 course Tuesday to finish stroke play at three over, giving him a share of 33rd place. Anderson made the cut for match play as well, adding a second-round 73 to his first-round 71 to finish at four-over.

The other three Gamecocks in the field fell below the cut at 145. Baker Elmore finished one shot off the pace, adding a 74 to his first-round 72. George Bryan IV was one shot behind his teammate at seven-over, shooting 73 and 74 over the two rounds. Mark Silvers III rounded out the Gamecocks in the field, battling to a 79 in the second round after shooting 74 on Monday.
